Youngsville Family Searching for Loved One

A family is searching for their 81-year-old loved one after he took off on foot Christmas Eve.

81-year-old Ray Nino disappeared mid-morning on Christmas Eve. He left his step-son's home on Southfork Drive in Youngsville.
His family had no idea where he was until Jennings Police told them they found Nino near I-10 Christmas morning. Police ran his name in the system and at the time, Nino wasn't listed as a missing person nor did he have any warrants. Jennings Police then dropped him off at a truck stop in Iowa.

Nino is apparently trying to get back to his home in San Marcos, Texas.

Family and friends are still worried since they haven't seen or heard from him.

"My greatest fear, we aren't going to find him alive," said Ray Nino's step-son, Joe Loosa.

Nino has been missing for more than two days. He lives nearly 500 miles away and was in Youngsville visiting family.

Christmas Eve, Nino was upset he would miss Christmas mass at his church back home.

"He talked to my mom and they were both here for Christmas, and said he was going back home."

Nino didn't drive to Youngsville, his stepson, Joe picked him and his wife up where they live in Texas. When Ray left their house, he left on foot. Family members thought he was just taking a walk to cool his temper.

"My mom says he'll spend some time and normally come back."

This isn't the first time Ray has taken off, but family members say this is the longest he's gone missing.

"He has taken off from Texas for a trip to Corpus and he normally gets there within two days."

Family members say they don't think Nino has alzheimers, but they're worried because the area has changed since his last trip to Acadiana, ten years ago.

"Sometimes he does get confused of where he's at and especially around here since he doesn't know the area."

Ray's family is praying he makes it home soon and safely.

Ray Nino was last seen wearing white pants, a white shirt, white jacket and white tennis shoes. He also had a heavy black jacket with him. Nino is 5'6" and weighs around 130 to 150 pounds.

If you have any information on his whereabouts, you're urged to call his relatives at 337-322-9495.
