GONZALES, La. (AP) - Prosecutors say a 29-year-old woman facing prosecution in the death of her 2-year-old godchild has pleaded guilty to a reduced charge.
The Advocate reports Shantell Watts Donahue and her husband, 29-year-old Terrell Devon Donahue, both of Gonzales, were indicted in May on charges of first-degree murder in the slaying of Jaylynn Ty'anna Muse in 2011.
Deputies say the toddler suffered injuries to the stomach and head after being hit and after falling. Muse died days later.
Shantell Donahue pleaded guilty Tuesday to second-degree cruelty to a juvenile and being an accessory after the fact to manslaughter and was sentenced to five-year sentence in prison.
On Feb. 22, Terrell Donahue pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of manslaughter and was sentenced to 40 years in prison.
