Authorities in Jeff Davis Parish are investigating the death of a woman whose body was found today in Lake Arthur. Another woman found the body near the water tower at West Sixth Street and Commercial Avenue.
Since posting the initial story on Facebook, there was one question being asked over and over again. Viewers are wondering if this death has any connection to the "Jennings 8" murders.
When asked if this could be tied to any other cases in the area, both Lake Arthur Chief of Police Cheryl Vincent and Jeff Davis Sheriff Ivy Woods say, "Not at this time". So far authorities can't even say if foul play is involved, because they're waiting on results from the coroner's office.
Police were called to the area around 3 o'clock Friday afternoon, and remained on scene for several hours. KATC has learned the deceased is a woman who was in her late twenties, but we don't know how she died. Her body was taken to the coroner's office for an autopsy. "We don't even know if there's foul play involved in it. We have to wait for the coroners report from the crime lab to determine if there is any foul play. It's an ongoing investigation we can't tell you much more than that", says Woods. Authorities know the woman's identity, but they aren't releasing her name until everyone has been notified.
