A woman avoided kidnapping by a man following her inside of a Kmart store. AT 7:30 pm Thursday night, an Iberia Parish Sheriff's Deputy was approached by a man who told him that another man was attempting to kidnap his girlfriend in the Kmart parking lot.
The victim's boyfriend, also in the Kmart parking lot stated that he was on the phone with his girlfriend who said that a male was asking her to get a hotel room with him. The boyfriend then told the deputy he heard her shout "don't grab me! Let me go!". The victim's boyfriend then said that he went to Kmart and located his girlfriend.
The deputy spoke with the 19 year old female victim who said she was approached by a male inside of Kmart. The victim said she attempted to avoid the suspect by going outside of the store, but the suspect then followed her. She said she then called her boyfriend to let him know what was happening. The victim said the male grabbed her and attempted to make her go with him. She told the deputy that she was able to break free from his grip and run into Kmart.
The deputy was able to identify the suspect from paper work he had filled out in Kmart prior to the incident and also video captured by the stores surveillance cameras.
Servo Lugo, 28, from New Iberia was identified as the suspect. The deputy went to his residence and arrested Lugo after he attempted to struggle and flee from deputies.
Lugo was charged with attempted simple kidnapping and resisting arrest. He was booked into the Iberia Parish Jail, no bond has been set as of yet.
