Woman accused of assisting inmate escape

A 46-year-old woman is accused of assisting an inmate escape to New Orleans.

31-year-old Cletis Viet Vu of Amelia left his assigned work release job at an industrial yard on Degraville Road in Amelia at 8:30 a.m. on November 14, 2013.

St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office and Louisiana State Police conducted a search for Viet Vu. According to detectives, information was gathered on Viet Vu's whereabouts. He was located at a downtown New Orleans casino and taken into custody without incident by Louisiana State Police.

Cletis Viet Vu is charged on a warrant for simple escape. He was transported back to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center in Centerville.

During the course of the investigation, St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office detectives identified a woman that allegedly aided Viet Vu in leaving the Amelia area. Michele Peters, 48, of Gray, LA is charged on a warrant for assisting escape. According to detectives, Peters admitted to picking up Viet Vu in the Amelia area and transporting him to New Orleans.
