The Wilbert Thibodeaux trial has been put on hold.
Thibodeaux is charged with first-degree murder in the deaths of Eddie Lyons and Chitimacha Police Officer Sgt. Rick Riggenbach. He's also charged with attempted first-degree murder for shooting two St. Mary Parish deputies. Thibodeaux entered a plea of "not guilty by reason of insanity for both cases."
Defense attorneys filed for a motion to appoint and consolidate those sanity commissions for both his capitol and non-capitol cases. Two doctors have been appointed to examine Thibodeaux but until then both cases will not go to trial. As for the next step in this case, there's a status conference March 20th.
