DESTREHAN, La. (AP) - On Wednesday, the Army Corps of Engineers will describe its plans to re-bury bones unearthed 26 years ago from cemeteries created for slaves before the Civil War and used for black Union soldiers during the war.

The Kenner and Kugler cemeteries in St. Charles Parish are now within the Bonnet Carre Spillway. Bones came out of the ground when the spillway was opened in 1985.

The Corps will hold a public meeting at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Destrehan to get comments about its plans for the cemeteries' archaeological district, and about plans to re-bury the disturbed remains.
