Shortly before 2 p.m. Tuesday, Rayne Police Department reported that both lanes of I-10 westbound traffic have been reopened following a vehicle fire that had closed down a seven-mile stretch of the interstate near Rayne.
Officers posted online that traffic is resuming a "normal traffic flow" and "responding personnel just departed the scene."
The Acadia Parish Sheriff's Department and DOTD had reported that the interstate had been closed down from mile markers 84 to 91, advising drivers to avoid the area. The queue from this incident at one point had stretched about three miles.
The fire occurred around 1:30 p.m.
