Voter registration deadline approaching

Secretary of State Tom Schedler is reminding Louisianians that the deadline to register to vote in the upcoming Oct. 19 municipal and 5th Congressional District elections is fast approaching. Wednesday, Sept. 18 is the last day to register for citizens who have never registered to vote as well as voters who would like to make changes to their registration.

"Louisiana's registration statistics are quite strong with approximately 84 percent of eligible citizens registered," said Secretary of State Tom Schedler. "However, you can't vote if you're not registered so it's important for everyone to check their status right now and take care of any updates that need to be made. By all means, if you're not registered, get registered."

Individuals can register to vote online 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at www.GeauxVote.com. In addition, voter registration opportunities are available at the parish's Registrar of Voters Office, while obtaining services at the Office of Motor Vehicles, public assistance agencies, public schools, colleges and libraries and by mail. Louisianians can also utilize the Secretary of State's smartphone app, GeauxVote Mobile, to check the status of their registration, review sample ballots and find polling place information.
