Ville Platte Man Shot & Killed, Family Speaks

A Ville Platte man's family is speaking out after he was gunned down and killed late last night. The shooting happened in the 100 block of East Washington Street. Joseph John was in front of a family member's home when he was shot.

Police say there are two persons of interest. Hilton Wilson has turned himself in for questioning, but police are still searching for Roekenski Thomas.

John's family members say all they want is justice.

"It's just a senseless murder that could have been avoided," John's cousin said.

"We're just hoping that justice is served," she said.

Family said they heard several gunshots fired from across the street and toward the house where John was shot. Police say that John, known as "Smoke," was shot once in the chest, and later died at a Lafayette hospital.

John's cousin said this wasn't the first time her family has been shot at by the person they believe killed John.

"This needs to stop. This has been going on for quite some time and it's time to put an end to it. It doesn't matter who's related to who, it doesn't matter who knows who, it's all about justice," John's cousin said.
