Our nation celebrates Veterans' Day today. Several schools, businesses and civic organizations will be holding events to honor those who have served our country.
Here's a look at some of those events:
A flag ceremony at Woodvale Elementary school at 8:30a.m.
A flag ceremony at Lafayette High at 11a.m.
Administrators and students at David Thibodaux Stem Magnet Academy are creating a wall of honor for Veterans along with a flag ceremony also at 8:30a.m.
In Baldwin, Raintree Elementary School are inviting Veterans to breakfast at 9a.m.
There will be a service in the Veteran's section of Fountain Memorial Cemetery in Lafayette at 9a.m.
Also the Louisiana Military Hall of Fame Museum, located in Abbeville, is in the process of creating a Louisiana Veteran Database. One would simply type the name of a Veteran and all available information would appear on the screen. This event starts at 10:30a.m.
A gumbo cook-off will be held on Baker Hughes Drive from 11a.m. for Veterans.
Today at 3p.m. there will be a service at Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery.
In new iberia on main street, Veterans will be honored with proclamations, 21 gun salute, a flag raising and prayer service at 6 tonight. Charles Boustany will be the guest speaker.
Also in Crowley at Southwind Assisted Living, a ceremony starts at 1:30p.m. and a number of restaurants are offering specials to Veterans including Chili's, Shoney's, Applebee's and Texas Roadhouse.
