The Vermilion / Municipal Task Force recently made the following arrests which were the results of illicit narcotics investigations.
Agents were working street sales disruptions when they noticed Quan Tran (dob 5-3-60) of Abbeville, make a suspected drug purchase. Upon approaching Tran, agents noticed him discard something. When the agents investigated further they located crack cocaine in the area where Tran threw the substance. Tran was taken into custody and charged with possession of crack cocaine. His total bond set was $5,000.
In a separate incident, the task force conducted a traffic stop which resulted in the arrest of Charles Ledet (dob 5-14-61) of Abbeville. After being stopped for a traffic violation agents noticed a rock of suspected crack cocaine on the floor of the vehicle. Upon advising Ledet of his rights it was noticed that Ledet continued to attempt to reach into his pocket.Ledet produced the item, which happened to be a pill bottle with numerous pills inside. The pills in the bottle were not the same pills described on the bottle. After further questioning, Ledet admitted to purchasing the pills and crack earlier. Ledet was arrested and charged with possession of crack cocaine, possession of a schedule III narcotic and possession of a schedule IV narcotic. Total bond set was $17,000.
Agents were working street sales disruption when they approached two vehicles parked, and blocking the roadway. Upon agents exiting their units and approaching one of the vehicles one Jarred Clement (dob 11-16-92) of Abbeville began to flee on foot from the scene. Clement was able to elude the agents but not before attempting to discard numerous rocks of crack cocaine, which agents were able to pick up and seize. Warrants were obtained for Clement for Possession with the intent to distribute crack cocaine. Clement was arrested at a later time on the warrant and was served traffic citations from the incident. Total bond was set at $20,000.
Sheriff Mike Couvillon would like to thank the following persons for their effort in assisting with Task Force personnel. Abbeville Mayor Mark Piazza, Kaplan Mayor Kirk Champagne, Abbeville Chief of Police Tony Hardy and Kaplan Chief Boyd Adams "I realize times are financially tough all over, but the Mayors and Chiefs of these cities are committed to finding the funds to help the Task Force combat the illicit drugs problem that ruins our communities. The people of Vermilion and our children are the benefactors of these city leaders' great efforts. It is my hope that in the near future other towns and cities in the parish of Vermilion will be able to assist in the continuing fight against illicit drugs."
