Acadia Parish School Superintendent John Bourque said the bus driver who left a 4-year-old boy on a school bus for 7 hours Monday is no longer working with the Student Transportation Service.
Bourque was not able to say why the driver was no longer employed or give the driver's name, citing civil service restrictions.
Latesha Hagger, the child's mother, says she picked up her son from the bus stop Monday afternoon when she says a bus aide told her that her son was found on the bus at the end of the day.
The school board reviewed surveillance video to verify that the child really was left on the bus for 7 hours.
The boy told his mom he cried when he couldn't get off the bus, then fell asleep. Hagger says no one at Church Point Elementary even noticed her son wasn't in school.
"They said they had notified the elementary. So I called the elementary, and the principal told me that too many kids had missed school today and they cant keep track of all the students," said Hagger. "I mean yes, this situation turned out the he was returned to me, but anything could have happened. That's my baby. That's my only child."
