Unrestrained woman in critical condition after crash

On April 13, 2014, at 8:34 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a report of a single vehicle crash on U. S. Highway 90 about 3 miles west of Sulphur in Calcasieu Parish.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2012 Mitsubishi Eclipse driven by 42-year-old Laura K. Stark-Smith of Sulphur was traveling east on U.S. 90 when, for unknown reasons, her vehicle veered across the centerline and opposing lane into a driveway. Upon impact, the vehicle flipped over causing Stark-Smith to be partially ejected from the vehicle.

Stark-Smith was not wearing a seatbelt. She was transported to hospital in Shreveport iwhere she is in critical condition.

A toxicology sample was obtained from Stark-Smith and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.
