An Oberlin woman is dead after a a single-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 26 east of Oberlin last night.
Troopers say it happened around 8:45 pm. Troopers say a 2012 Nissan driven by 40-year-old Kimberly Lovejoy of Oberlin was traveling west on LA 26 east of Oberlin at a high rate of speed when Lovejoy failed to negotiate a curve to the right. Investigators say the vehicle traveled off the highway and struck a ditch embankment causing the vehicle to flip repeatedly before coming to rest.
Lovejoy, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was thrown from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Allen Parish Coroner's Office. There were no passengers in the vehicle.
Excessive speed is suspected to be a factor in the crash. A toxicology sample was obtained from Lovejoy and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.
