Unresolved Murder Cases in Lafayette City and Parish

A murder suspect is still on the loose Tuesday, as Lafayette police and the U.S. Marshals are asking the public for help in the search for 32-year-old Carl Phillips. He's accused of shooting and killing John Dean of Baton Rouge on July 29th in the 600 block of Goldman Street in Lafayette. Police said Phillips is considered armed and dangerous.

Lafayette Police are now working with the U.S. Marshals Violent Offender Task Force. They are anxious to get the suspected shooter behind bars.

"We feel fortunate they're out there trying to locate these individuals and hopefully put them in jail," said Lafayette Police Corporal Paul Mouton.

Goldman Street is no stranger to violence, with several incidents there in the past few months. People in the neighborhood said they want it to stop.

"I prayed for peace to be restored in the neighborhood and God is working on that for us," said Goldman Street resident Evelyn Renee.

Renee said she sees it all on her street.

"I watch, I look and see if anything going on that's not right and most of the time I'm up late at night," said Renee. "I've got to watch myself, you can't trust people now days, you know it's 2012."

She was there for the July shooting. And before that, a shooting in May when another man, Isaiah Morgan, was shot to death on the same street. Police arrested his alleged killer, Wilber Simon, not long after.

In this most recent shooting, police and Rene both hoping for justice and an end to the violence.

"My motto is justice for all... Hopefully everything will come together," said Renee.

"When police work with the public and they have an exchange of information obviously crimes are solved," said Mouton.

Police are asking for the public's help in this case. If you have any information on Phillips' whereabouts call police at 337-232-TIPS or the U.S. Marshals at 337-281-8236.
