The UL volleyball team is ranked first in their conference and enters Sun Belt play this weekend on the road but this particular team wasn't always at the top of their game.
However working with Coach Heather Mazetis, the team has been able to dramatically turn things around. With a 10-4 start the Cajuns Volleyball Team is having their the best season they've had in 15 years.
"We're just trying to bring back those glory days and it's really rewarding that the freshman we bought in four years ago to start for us are still starting for us and we're still winning," said Mazetis.
Coach Mazetis says she couldn't be more proud of her team especially her four starting seniors.
"We don't put anybody below anybody, we just make everybody feel like their leading," said Senior Tonice White.
"Really what's motivated me is being apart of the improvement. I see all for of us seniors helping the younger girls and making them just coming along with us and improve everyday. I think we've had the hardest working girls we've had on the team everyday so that also is really exciting to see," said Senior Taylor Meade
Senior Tonice White thinks the teams talent, great chemistry and tight bond are all good ingriendents for the Sun Belt Conference Championship.
"I'm hoping we're going to be in it. I know it's going to be a long conference season, a tough one and we're going to have a lot of competition but that conference tournament is going to be exciting," said White.
"Of course we want to win the conference championship and go to NCAA tournament, those are big goals we've set for ourselves this year and that's we're heading but I think if we do the little things in between than that success is going to come for us," said Mazetis.
The team takes on Texas State tomorrow at 6:30p.m. in San Marcos.
