UL Student Making UFC Debut Saturday Night

A Lafayette native will be making his way into the octagon for his UFC debut Saturday night.

UL student, Aaron Phillips, is following in the footsteps of current UFC fighter Dustin Poirier. They both fight out of Gladiators Academy in Lafayette, which has been ranked a top 100 MMA gym in the country. Phillips' coaches are excited to have another student excel at a high level.

"He just throws so many different strikes. He's really going to mix it up with this guy," Instructor Julien Bonin said.

They also say Phillips is a great representative of not only their gym, but the city as well.

"Aaron Phillips is the finest martial artist I've had the privilege of training. He's a fine young man. He's an exceptional talent. His skill level is amazing and his demeanor and personality are top notch. There are very few fine human beings on the planet and he's one of them," Head Instructor Josh Artigue said.

Phillips is already in Las Vegas prepping for Saturday's fight. If you'd like to check him out in action, you can find a link to UFC Fight Pass. Phillips will enter the Octagon just after 5:30pm.
