LAFAYETTE -- After a string of positive developments for UL football -- the stadium construction, the Adidas deal, the contract extension for head coach Mark Hudspeth -- the first blip on the radar has arrived.
UL has suspended backup quarterback and Carencro native Jalen Nixon "indefinitely" and may not lift the suspension until season's end. The Ragin' Cajuns will also be without defensive back Simeon Thomas this season, after it was announced he failed to qualify academically.
Both developments were first reported by The Daily Advertiser's Tim Buckley.
Nixon was suspended for "a violation of team rules." He and Thomas will remain on the team and will have two seasons of eligibility beginning in 2015.
Thomas was a candidate to start at cornerback this season, while Nixon's absence leaves the Cajuns with only two quarterbacks on the roster with playing experience (Terrance Broadway and Brooks Haack). Nixon was named the backup shortly before the New Orleans Bowl this past December, ahead of Haack on the depth chart.
