UL's Jace Conrad Named Louisville Slugger First Team All-American, Baranik To Third Team

For the first time in 15 years, a Ragin' Cajun is a first team All-American. Jace Conrad earns top billing on the Louisville Slugger All-American team as chosen by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper.

Conrad has spearheaded the top-ranked Cajuns to a 53-7 record and the No. 6 overall seed in this week's upcoming NCAA Tournament. The Lafayette High product was named the Sun Belt Player of the Year last week after finishing Top 5 in conference in six different offensive categories.

During the regular season, Conrad hit .367, which ranked second in the Sun Belt. He was also second in hits (79) and hit by pitch (16), third in runs (51) and doubles (19), fourth in RBI (53), fifth in total bases (125), sixth in slugging (.581) and on base percentage (.440), seventh in sac bunts (8) and eighth in triples (3). The junior is tied for the team lead with 24 two-out RBI. Conrad was named a semifinalist for the Dick Howser Award and was also added to the Gregg Olson Award watch list.

Carson Baranik joins Conrad as a third team selection. The junior college transfer was named the Sun Belt Pitcher of the Year after going 10-1 with a 3.30 ERA and striking out 69 during the regular season.

The Bossier City, La., native became the first 10-game winner since Moody in 2006. Baranik ranks 11th in the nation in wins and ranks second in the Sun Belt in opponents batting average (.222), fourth in innings pitched (90.1), fifth in ERA (2.99) and seventh in strikeouts (66). Baranik was named the conference pitcher of the week twice this season and was also named the Collegiate Baseball Hall of Fame Pitcher of the Year watch list.

Conrad becomes the first Ragin' Cajun to garner All-American status since Zach Osborne in 2010 and is the first to notch first-team status since Phil Devey in 1999. Overall, the Cajuns have now had 17 players earn an All-American award under head coach Tony Robichaux.
