UL Professor Plans To Retire After Paying Back University

UPDATE: When notified of the allegations against Dr. Ali Ghalambor, the University of Louisiana at Lafayette immediately notified the appropriate authorities and initiated a review led by the director of internal and external audit for the University of Louisiana System. Upon competition of the review, the university submitted the findings to appropriate authorities as prescribed by the University of Louisiana System policy. Dr. Ghalambor has since notified the university of his retirement effective at the end of the semester when his research and teaching duties will be complete. He has also agreed to reimburse the university for travel expenses he was not entitled to receive.


An internal audit into the finances of UL Lafayette Professor of Petroleum Engineering Dr. Ali Ghalambor is complete.

The report found that from 2006 to 2009, Ghalambor did not properly report outside employment to the university.

The audit revealed he accepted more than $40,000 from the university, while working other jobs.

His travel expenses also revealed that he claimed more than $84,000 in travel expenses, while also claiming reimbursement from companies and organizations he served during his travels.

Ghalambor stepped down as Chairperson of his department, but is still employed by the university, which is consulting with the District Attorney's office on potential legal action.
