It's official, UL will play in this year's New Orleans Bowl on December 17th. The formal invitation was given to the Ragin' Cajuns at a pep rally Monday night.
Just as soon as the announcement was made fans were already making plans to attend the New Orleans Bowl, by buying tickets and making hotel reservations.
David Fontenot was a Freshman at UL in 1970, the last time the Ragin Cajuns played in a bowl game. He said he's been waiting 41 years for this moment.
"It was a great moment then and this is a once in a lifetime if you're a UL fan," said Fontenot.
On Monday, Fontenot, along with so many other UL fans, was beaming with pride.
"it's very very emotional. And one thing we need is for the community to feel what I feel and the community needs this type of honor. And let's support them and go to New Orleans," said Fontenot.
And with the Mercedes Benz Super Dome just a couple of hours down I-10, Cajun fans plan to "paint the Quarter red."
"Finally hearing that we actually get to go, everyone's so excited, we were just getting chills watching the videos of all the highlight from the games and stuff," said UL Cheerleader Megan Pounds at the rally.
UL senior Ryan Cormier said he hasn't missed a home game in 10 years, and has already bought his Bowl Game tickets and booked a place to stay.
"I'd be excited no matter what, but it's kind of sweet that it's my last year and this is the year we finally do it, it's been fun," said Cormier.
Something important to remember when buying tickets for the New Orleans Bowl is to purchase them through UL. They have about 9,000 for UL, and you can get them at the main ticket office.
If you don't buy them through the University, UL won't get the proceeds from the ticket sales.
