A Texas mission group is dedicating time and services to make a difference in the lives of others here in Acadiana.
The Central Conference Youth in Mission group spent last week in Eunice and Mamou repairing homes.
Drilling, measuring, and painting, dozens of students from Central Texas traveled to Eunice to spread the word of God and to help four families repair their homes. Wheelchair ramps, painting, and minor repairs were just a handful of tasks that the youth group tackled.
"They expose themselves to a little bit of construction, but it gives them the idea of what it takes to do that kind of work."
The mission trip is very hands on. Kids have the opportunity to learn new tools and for Casey Jackson, she says she never would have picked up a power-tool till working on this project.
"I've learned to use a power drill, circular saw and I was so excited, my mom got me one for Christmas."
The work these students do is often work that homeowners wouldn't be able to do without their help.
"Here they come to my house to help me. They could be doing something else, but they are giving up their summer. It shows a lot of faith on their part," said one home owner.
The mission group is very passionate and enjoys giving up their summer to help those in need.
"People complain about doing chores, but we love that we can help someone who needs it."
