Two Men Hospitalized After Early Morning Shooting

Opelousas Police are investigating an early morning shooting which resulted in the hospitalization of two men.

Early this morning, officers were dispatched to the 400 block of Franklin Street. When they arrived, 31-year-old Cody McLendon was located with a .45 caliber handgun.

It was discovered that McLendon was involved in an altercation with Claude Payne, who sustained a gun shot wound to the hand, and Clifton Payne, who sustained a gunshot wound to the head.

As the investigation continued, McLendon was believed to have left two separate locations previous to the incident which allegedly led to Claude Payne and Clifton Payne arriving at McLendon's residence on Franklin Street. After a lengthy altercation two shots were fired.

Officers also located a knife which has the shape of a handgun on scene.

Both men with gunshot wounds are recovering in a regional hospital.
