On Saturday, June 14, 2014, Lafayette Police arrested Elijah Jones (23) of Lafayette and Miles Boudreaux (22) of Lafayette in connection with a shooting.
Around 3:15 a.m., a Lafayette Police Officer heard gun shots near the intersection of 8th Street and East Simcoe Street. While observing the area, the officer noticed a vehicle rapidly departing the area. The officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop, and pursued the vehicle until it stopped near the intersection of Sonny Street and Roy Street. At that time, both suspects exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Once they were apprehended, officers recovered a handgun and shotgun.
The victim in the shooting, a 26 year old male of Lafayette, was struck in the left thigh and transported to an area hospital where he is listed in stable condition.
Jones was charged with Attempted 2nd Degree Murder and Flight from an Officer. Boudreaux was charged with Attempted 2nd Degree Murder, Illegal Carrying of a Firearm and Resisting an Officer.
The shooting remains under investigation.
