A man drives his truck into the Thrifty Way Pharmacy at 805 Center St. in New Iberia. The Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office said it happened August 30 at approximately 11:54 p.m, in an effort to burglarize the business.
The tan Toyota truck had smashed through the front glass. Witnesses said a white male suspect was inside the pharmacy at that time.
The suspect led deputies on a pursuit that took them to Fonteleu Street where the and the driver, Matthew Labauve struck a ditch.
He was arrested. Authorities found prescription medication matching the drugs that were reported stolen from Thrifty Way Pharmacy.
Laubauve is also linked the suspect to an earlier burglary at L & M Pharmacy.
He's was already facing charges for February 2010 burglaries that were committed at L & M Pharmacy and Thrifty Way Pharmacy. Laubauve is also charged with principal to attempted burglary of a pharmacy for his part in an attempted pharmacy burglary in April of 2010 at Delaune's Pharmacy.
The most recent charges are criminal damage to property over $500 (4 counts) due to damage to the pharmacies during the burglaries. Additionally the suspect was charged with simple criminal damage to property, aggravated flight from an officer and reckless operation as a result of the pursuit.
More charges are pending.
