Tropical Storm Chantal is quickly moving westward at speeds of 26 mph, with little change in the intensity. Winds are still sustained at 45 mph, with some strengthening expected to occur over the next several days. Models hinting at Chantal strengthening close to hurricane strength with winds hitting 70 mph by mid week.
The forecast cone has not significantly changed with progress continuing north out of the Caribbean and moving up along Florida by the end of the week. Tropical storm warnings are now posted through out the Caribbean Islands.
As always how this storm interacts with the islands will be important to its overall track and intensity. After making an impact in Hispaniola the storm will start to weaken and could be a tropical depression by the weekend. As always you can rely on KATC to bring you all the updates as this storm develops.
