Tropical Depression Forms in Eastern Atlantic

A disturbance that moved off the African Coast this week has been upgraded to a tropical depression late Wednesday night.

Tropical Depression #5 was located roughly 80 miles to the south-southeast of the Cape Verde Islands. The depression with 35mph winds, was moving to the west-northwest near 14mph.

This system could become a tropical storm Thursday.  Some modest strengthening is expected over the next few days but some weakening is anticipated thereafter.

TD #5 will not threaten land through the next 5-7 days while crossing the Atlantic.
