Trail of money leads to robbery suspect

A 45-year-old Slidell man is accused of robbing two businesses in Opelousas today.

According to an OPD news release, at 6:25 am today the suspect robbed the Shell station on Creswell. The suspect was later identified from video footage as Donald Bellard got away with $77.00.

At 12:20 pm OPD was called out to the Crawfish Kitchen located on South Union Street. The caller advised that their business had just been robbed by an individual claiming to have a gun and fitting the same description as the earlier complaint on Creswell. Bellard allegedly struck the cashier and pulled the entire register off the counter and fled the store.

Officers located the suspect three blocks away, after leaving a trail of money that could be tracked back to the business. Bellard also left his wallet containing his identification on the counter of the store

OPD investigators arrested and charged Donald Bellard with 2 counts of First Degree Robbery.
