Traffic Stops Yield More Than 1,000 Pounds of Illegal Narcotics

During the past few weeks Louisiana State Troopers in Troop A and Troop I made several traffic stops which resulted in multiple arrests and the seizure of nearly 1,000 pounds of marijuana, several pounds of cocaine, nearly a kilo of MDMA, 8 ounces of codeine and two handguns.

Troopers say the first traffic stop occurred shortly before 12:00 pm on Wednesday, February 26, 2014.  The trooper stopped a 2013 Lexus GS350 on I-10 eastbound west of LA Hwy 415 in West Baton Rouge Parish for a traffic violation. The driver of the Lexus (31 year old Christopher Lee-Sinc Jackson of Beaumont, TX) allegedly gave troopers permission to search the vehicle. Upon searching the vehicle, troopers say they discovered approximately 11 pounds of cocaine, 2 handguns and $10,000 cash hidden in the vehicle. Jackson was arrested for LRS 32:79 (Improper lane usage), LRS 40:967A (Possession with intent to distribute Schedule II Narcotics) and LRS 14:95 (Illegal carrying of weapons). Jackson was booked into the West Baton Rouge Parish Jail.

The second traffic stop occurred shortly after 11:30 pm on Friday, March 21, 2014 when a Trooper stopped a 2007 Honda Accord on I-10 eastbound west of LA Hwy 415 in West Baton Rouge Parish for a traffic violation. A State Police K9 allegedly alerted to the presence of narcotics in the vehicle, and upon searching the Honda Troopers say they discovered more than 100 pounds of marijuana, approximately 1.1 kilos (11,000 dosage units) of MDMA (Ecstasy) and approximately 8 ounces of Codeine syrup. The driver of the Honda (23 year old Jamorrius R. Gibson of Hammond) was placed under arrest for LRS 32:79 (Improper lane usage), LRS 32:104 (Turning movements and required signals), LRS 40:966A (Possession with intent to distribute Schedule I Narcotics), LRS 40:970A (Possession with intent to distribute Schedule V Narcotics) and LRS 32:415 (Driving under suspension). Gibson was booked into the West Baton Rouge Parish Jail.

The third traffic stop in Troop A occurred shortly before 11:30 pm on Sunday, March 23, 2014 when a Trooper stopped a 2007 Mercedes CL550 on I-10 eastbound west of LA Hwy 415 in West Baton Rouge Parish for a traffic violation. The driver of the Mercedes (34 year old Martin Martinez of La Marque, TX) allegedly gave Troopers permission to search his vehicle. Upon searching the vehicle Troopers say they discovered approximately 244 pounds of marijuana. Martinez was arrested for LRS 32:79 (Improper lane usage) and LRS 40:966A (Possession with intent to distribute Schedule I Narcotics) and booked into the West Baton Rouge Parish Jail.

Shortly before 7:15 am on Monday, March 24, 2014 Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop I stopped a 2013 Nissan Pathfinder on I-10 eastbound west of Henderson in St. Martin Parish for a traffic violation. Upon searching the vehicle Troopers say they discovered more than 586 pounds of marijuana packaged in bundles. The driver of the Nissan (25 year old Juan Rangle of Brownsville, TX) was arrested for LRS 32:79 (Improper lane usage), LRS 32:52 (No driver's license), and LRS 40:966A (Possession with intent to distribute Schedule I Narcotics). Rangle was booked into the St. Martin Parish Jail.
