Traffic Arrest Leads to Drug Charges

Officers with the Broussard Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling east on US Hwy 90 in St. Martin Parish for a traffic violation. The driver of the vehicle was identified as George Green, 41 of Ferriday Louisiana. Green could not produce a driver's license during the course of the traffic stop, and officers smelled a strong odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle. Green refused consent to search the vehicle and a K9 was called investigate. A positive K9 alert resulted in the discovery of 180.5 grams of marijuana ($360 street value). It was packaged in six bags for resale, and concealed in a 5 gallon plastic bucket. Officers also discovered, Green was wanted out of Concordia Parish on three charges for failure to appear for second degree murder, Possession of a Firearm by Convicted Felon and possession with intent to distribute cocaine, marijuana, and ecstasy. Green's license was found to be suspended.

Green was booked in the St. Martin Parish Correctional Center on the charges of:

Possession with intent to distribute marijuana, monies derived from drug proceeds, on the warrants for FTA for second degree murder, warrant for Possession of a Firearm by Convicted Felon, a warrant for possession with intent to distribute cocaine, marijuana, and ecstasy, no license plate light and driving under suspension.
