In a special meeting Tuesday night, the Lafayette Parish School Board narrowed down the list of candidates in the running for superintendent.
The top three candidates to replace Superintendent Burnell Lemoine are: Dr. Donald W. Aguillard, Dr. Pat Cooper and Dr. Walter Gonsoulin.
The board is expected to make a final decision December 9th. In the meantime each candidate will go through another interview, and a public forum is expected.
Dr. Aguillard is currently the superintendent of St. Mary Parish Schools and has 31 years experience in education, including time in Lafayette Parish schools where he worked as a teacher, assistant principal, and principal.
Dr. Pat Cooper is currently the President/CEO of the Early Childhood and Family Learning Foundation in New Orleans. He has nearly 40 years experience in education, working in administrative and teaching roles.
Dr. Walter Gonsoulin is currently an assistant superintendent in the Starkville School District in Starkville, MS. He has 20 years experience in education, including stints teaching in Iberia and St. Martin Parishes, as well as at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
