Press Release-The Opelousas Police Department's Special Operations Division has arrested Opelousas resident, Francis Thibodeaux 48, for Attempted Simple Kidnapping. The arrest stemmed from a complaint filed with the department in April. Officers were called to a Hazel Street residence where they were advised that a white male driving a maroon colored truck attempted to abduct a ten year old boy. Officers check the surrounding area but were unable to locate the vehicle.
On May 17, 2010 Chief Perry Gallow was checking school zones when he observed a vehicle fitting the description of the one given on the day of the incident. Chief Gallow stopped the vehicle and detained the driver Mr. Francis Thibodeaux for questioning by his investigators. The investigator's prepared a line up and the victim was able to pick Mr. Thibodeaux out as the person who attempted to abduct him in April. Investigators then spoke with Mr. Thibodeaux and enough evidence was gained to make an arrest. Mr. Thibodeaux is currently being held in the Opelousas City Jail awaiting Line up. Mr. Thibodeaux is currently a tier three based sex offender registered with the St. Landry Parish Sheriffs Department.
I am glad to have this individual off the streets of Opelousas. He is a threat to our children as well as to the community. I will do my best to see that these types of incidents do not go unpunished. Our children need to know that they area safe and I will do my part to do just that.
