On Dec 11th three Opelousas teens have been charged by the OPD Involving separate crimes, dating back to April 13th of this year.
Jeremy Fontenot 17 yrs of age of Opelousas has been arrested by OPD patrol officers after a complaint was called in by his mother after questioning him about a 42in tv and x-box game in her home, which she did not purchase. Upon arriving the officer was directed to the questionable items. The responding officer then realized that he'd worked a previous burglary just a few blocks away on Dec 5th where these same items had been taken.
Jeremy Fontenot was then arrested and jailed for simple burglary.
Dec 10th officers were called to Wal Mart in reference to a purse snatching. Officers were able to gather enough information to identify the suspect as 17 year old Hunter Ozenne of Opelousas. Ozenne turned himself in on Dec 11th after officers checked several locations which would not allow Ozenne to "rest" as he stated. Ozenne confessed to the crime and was jailed for purse snatching.
Nov 18th officers responded to a local fast food restaurant regarding the theft of a wallet. The suspect was described as a young black male. Officers were able to identify the suspect to be 18yr old Lazenta Vaughns of Opelousas. Officers located Vaughns on Tuesday Dec 11th. After evidence was presented linking him to a residential burglary back in April of this year, Vaughns confessed to the crime. Vaughns was then booked and jailed for theft and simple burglary.
All three teenagers remain in the Opelousas city jail. More arrest are expected as more evidence is obtained. Teenagers such as these are making terrible decisions in committing these crimes, and should realize the impact that there acts have on there victims, who are mothers just as there own.
The arrest of these teenagers were initiated by patrol officers then followed up by investigators reinforcing the OPD motto, "One Team, One Mission, One Result."
