Thibodaux Tech High School

Lafayette Parish High School freshmen can expect a new option this Fall. The School Board is opening a new school to add to their School of Choice Program. Applications are now being accepted for 8th graders wanting to attend Thibodaux Career and Technical High School.

The school is named after former school board member, David Thibodaux, who died in 2007.

"He was a great advocate of that technical school and we (the school board) just felt this was a really great way of honoring him," school board member, Rae Trahan said.

There are four pathways offered by the new school the freshmen can choose from to concentrate on once they become sophomores:
- Advanced Manufacturing
- Health & Applied Sciences
- Business Information Systems
- Human Services

Burnell Lejeune, Director of the School of Choice Programs, says the new school will not only prepare students for college, but will give them the tools needed to move directly into the workforce.

"(Students can) take that career path and then center it around their academic subjects in technology just like the business world," Lejeune said.

Students will also be able to receive dual credit, for high school and college, and internship opportunities in the career path of their choice.

Applications will be accepted until the end of June. Students can apply at There are only 100 slots available, so a lottery will take place later in the summer.
