The Split Continues: LHSAA Breaks Up Prep Classic Weekend

For a second straight off-season, major change is coming to Louisiana High School Football. One year after the LHSAA adopted an unprecedented "split" playoff of public and private schools, there is more fracture on the way.

During their annual summer meetings, the LHSAA Executive Committee has decided to have two separate championship weekends: one for "select", one for "non-select". The LHSAA had held all nine state championships during the tradition Prep Classic weekend extending the action to Thursday.

Select (private) schools will play the weekend prior, which has traditionally been the weekend of semifinal games. The non-select (public) will play the during the normal time slotted for the Prep Classic.

Other changes in high school football that were adopted included the ability for select schools to play up a division and a now 16-team postseason bracket for Division IV. It was originally a 32-team bracket with only 30 squads.
