Prosecutors say a man accused of being present during the October 2011 murder of a man from Gray in a botched armed robbery has been convicted of second-degree murder.
Terrebonne Parish District Attorney Joseph Waitz Jr. tells The Courier Chad Mart of Gray was convicted Wednesday of second-degree murder for his participation in a botched 2011 robbery in which Corey Short was killed.
Waitz says Short's cousin, Joshua Smith, also of Gray, is the suspected shooter and is still in the parish jail awaiting trial.
Witnesses in Mart's trial said Mart and Smith decided to rob Short, who was known to sell marijuana.
Post-trial motions for Mart are scheduled for July 16 with sentencing to follow.
