A teen on probation allegedly stole heavy construction equipment from Lafayette Parish.
St. Landry Sheriff's Office deputies received information that the items--a 40 foot goose neck trailer and an excavator--were at a residence on Flagstation Road. The tipster told investigators that he arrived at the property to look at a trailer that was on Craigslist. When the complainant noticed a scratched VIN number, he immediately called authorities, said Vizena.
Detectives recovered both pieces of equipment that were reported stolen out of Lafayette Parish within the last 2 months.
A 16-year-old juvenile was taken into custody for the theft of both items, according to Vizena. The juvenile had an electronic ankle bracelet after being arrested 3 weeks ago for multiple burglary charges within St. Landry Parish.
Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office and Lafayette Police Department will be handling the investigation from here, Vizena added.
