The Lafayette Parish Talented Program is again hosting its annual multidisciplinary arts festival downtown, this year based on the theme "SPACE." Talented Program students of all ages will offer visual art exhibitions and live music and theatre performances at two locations during the festival, which runs from March 8 - 22.
The festival kicks off with an opening reception at Cité des Arts on Saturday, March 8, from 4:30 - 6 p.m. and continues through Art Walk that evening from 6 - 8 p.m. The series of rotating exhibits will remain on display at both Cité des Arts and Cajun Spice Gallery throughout the festival, giving art lovers the chance to sample the talent and creativity of Acadiana's students throughout the week during regular business hours and scheduled evening performances. The full schedule is available at http://www.lpssonline.com/site5669.php.
The Lafayette Parish School System's Talented Program fosters the development of the artistic talents of kindergarten through 12th-grade students identified by the Louisiana State Department of Education as having extraordinary talent in music, theatre or visual art. Students who have met the state criteria may receive instruction in a specialized enrichment class taught by artist teachers who have special certification based on their expertise in their field. Their instruction is not a duplication of the regular curriculum in these areas, but an acceleration and enrichment of the subject through the guidance and mentorship of professionally experienced artists as a preparation for a lifelong involvement in the arts.
