Suspects Use Distraction to Steal, Identities Sought

On September 23, 2009, at approximately 11:30 am, officers with the Lafayette Police Department responded to an incident involving the theft of a wallet, in the 2800 block of Ambassador Caffery Parkway. According to the victim, she was shopping at a grocery retail store when she was approached by a light skinned black male. The suspect, who was accompanied by a second black male suspect, asked the victim to read the contents on a product. While the victim was distracted, the suspect removed her wallet from her purse and departed the store. Credit cards contained in the wallet were used at another retail outlet in Lafayette. Detectives have obtained photos of the two suspects allegedly responsible for the incident.

The Lafayette Police department is also investigating a similar incident that occurred at a different retail store on Ambassador Caffery. That incident occurred on August 25, 2009. It is unknown at this time if the two incidents are connected.

Detectives are asking anyone with information about the incident or the identity of the suspects in the photos to contact the Lafayette Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 232-TIPS.
