In Acadia Parish, an arrest has been made in the murder of a man, whose badly decomposed body was found last week in a field. Henry Roberto Dubon is facing charges of first-degree murder and armed robbery. This, in the death of Tomas Mendoza, who was found dead off Hawks Road in Roberts Cove last Thursday.
Dubon was booked into jail last night for an unrelated aggravated assault charge. That bond was set at $50,000, now he's being held without bond.
"They've known each other previously," said Chief Deputy Keith Latiola. "Both men are from Honduras, and both individuals were in the states illegally we've learned."
Deputies believe the two men were acquaintances, in the area looking for work, when Henry Dubon robbed Tomas Mendoza, then killed him. Mendoza was stabbed in the abdomen, chest, neck, face and head. He also had one large cut across his throat.
"Mr. Dubon was in the company of Mr. Mendoza when they ended up in the area where the body was found," said Latiola. "An altercation took place, which is where investigators believe a robbery took place, which led to the death of Mr. Mendoza."
Latiola stresses even though an arrest has been made an investigation is still ongoing, but they do not believe anyone else is involved.
"We have charged, and are currently holding, Mr. Dubon for the death of Mr. Mendoza," said Latiola.
Viewers have been asking if this murder has any connection to the body of a Guatemalan man found in Acadia Parish almost one year ago. As you may recall his body was found wrapped in a tarp in the middle of White Oak Highway near Richard. There was never an arrest in that case, and while deputies continue to follow up on leads, they say in no way are the two cases connected and that case remains open.
