Superintendent Choices for a Snowday

St. Landry Superintendent Michael Nassif has a big decision to make if snow finds comes to the parish.

Nassif says his main concern is the ~2,200 faculty and staff members and the ~15,000 students at 39 sites.

He says, "some safety issues really come into play, want to make sure if we can have school we will."

If he decides to close school, there is already a system in place to spread the word.

"Once we make that determination the phone bank goes into effect where we notify all of our people within the system."

In the phone bank are the name and numbers of at least one person at every school in the parish.

The process starts with Nassif himself, from there, a trickle down effect happens until every staff and faculty member knows if school is closed.

The superintendent says he's had to consider closing St. Landry Parish Schools because of snow more times this year than in all other years combined.

If you live in St. Landry Parish and you get conflicting reports on whether school will be open or closed, there is a way to find out on your own.

The school board and school officials share an emergency line.
