NEW ORLEANS - The Sun Belt Conference has issued a revision to its University Reference Guide that was originally released on Monday, January 13, 2014.
The revision centers on the nickname of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and the use of a hyphen on the first reference use of the university's name. The originally released reference guide incorrectly listed the university's nickname as simply "Ragin Cajuns" and has now been revised to correctly list the nickname as "Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns." Additionally, the guide originally stated "UL-Lafayette" would be used on first reference, however the hyphen has been removed and the first reference has been updated to "UL Lafayette." As a result, the hyphen on the first reference "UL-Monroe" has also been removed and has been updated to "UL Monroe."
"I apologize for the omission of 'Louisiana' before Ragin' Cajuns as well as the incorrect listing for UL Lafayette and I further apologize for any confusion or inconvenience this may have caused," said Sun Belt Conference Commissioner Karl Benson.
