Kidz Kabaret will hold auditions for the classic musical, Annie Jr., on Saturday, May 3 from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Cité des Arts (109 Vine St., Lafayette, LA). Any child ages 8 to 18 are welcome to audition. Those auditioning are asked to prepare one-minute of a song from a musical to sing for their audition. Readings from the script will be available as well. Rehearsals for Annie Jr. will be in the form of a summer camp that will run July 7 through July 25, Monday through Friday from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. Performances will be August 1, 2, 3, 8, 9, and 10 at Cité des Arts. If cast in the production, a fee of $250 will be applied to each cast member. The production fee for the second child in the same family is reduced to $200.
Based on the popular Broadway musical, which was adapted from the comic strip Little Orphan Annie, Annie Jr. tells the story of a spunky, Depression-era orphan who is determined to find her parents, who abandoned her on the doorstep of a New York City Orphanage run by the cruel Miss Hannigan. During adventure after fun-filled adventure, Annie foils Miss Hannigan's evil plans, befriends President Franklin Roosevelt and finds a new family in billionaire Oliver Warbucks, his personal secretary Grace Farrell, and a lovable mutt named Sandy. The musical features a book by Thomas Meehan, music by Charles Strouse, and lyrics by Martin Charnin.
