A DWI and seatbelt checkpoint in Sulphur Thursday yields no alcohol-related arrests from the 2,387 cars checked, says Calcasieu deputies.
On Aug. 28, the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office conducted a DWI and seatbelt checkpoint at 1800 block of Ruth Street, Sulphur to target individuals driving under the influence of alcohol and/or narcotics, as well as, people who are not wearing their seatbelt.
Of the 2,387 vehicles checked, only five drivers were required to take field sobriety tests. Eight citations were issued for expired motor vehicle sticker. One ticket was issued for no inspection sticker. Two drivers were cited for no child restraints. Eight others were cited for no seatbelt. Three drivers received citations for expired licenses. Four drivers were given citations for no driver license. One person was cited for an open alcoholic beverage container in a vehicle.
Only Tanner Theriot, 21, of 817 Mathew Street, Sulphur, was arrested for possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and an expired inspection sticker.
Participating in the checkpoint were the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office, Lake Charles City Police, Sulphur Police and Louisiana State Police.
