A local high school football coach has won a USA TODAY poll to be named the best coach in Louisiana.
St. Thomas More's Jim Hightower beat out seven other coaches, including John Curtis's J. T. Curtis, Jr., West Monroe's Don Shows, and Notre Dame's Lewis Cook, in the online poll. Hightower will now compete against coaches from the other 49 states and the District of Columbia in a poll to name America's best high school football coach.
During his 39-year coaching career, Hightower has won 21 district championships and the 1978 state championship. He is one of only four coaches in Louisiana high school football history to win at least 300 games.
