BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - State transportation officials say they will lower the speed limit at Louisiana 1/Louisiana 3090 in Port Fourchon.
The move, announced Tuesday, comes after a recent study showed that a 45 mile-per-hour speed limit would be appropriate for traffic in that area. The current speed limit is 55 mph.
The study was conducted after the completion of the newly elevated section of La. 1.
Sherri H. LeBas, secretary of the Department of Transportation and Development, says they've also installed rumble strips on roads east and west of the intersection, flashers on existing signage alerting motorists to a "stop sign ahead," and strobe-lit flashing stop signs on the east side of the intersection.
DOTD also plans to install additional rumble strips and flashing beacons to alert drivers to the lower speed zone.
