According to St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert, during the last 24 hour reporting period the Sheriff's Office responded to 38 complaints and reports the following arrests:
Debra Rollins, 55, 524 Park Avenue, Franklin, LA was arrested on December 20, 2012 at 9:49 am on a warrant for issuing worthless checks. A deputy located Rollins on the warrant at her residence. She was released on a summons to appear in court on March 8, 2012.
Juvenile female, 16, was arrested on December 20, 2012 at 2:21 pm at the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office in Franklin, LA for simple obstruction of a highway of commerce and resisting an officer. On December 18, 2012 three subjects were arrested after they were found to be stowaways on a train. On December 20, 2012 the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office received information indicating that one of the subjects, a female, was a juvenile. During the course of the investigation detectives learned that the female was a runaway from the state of New York who gave an alias and a false birth date at the time of her arrest. The juvenile was booked on the additional charge of resisting an officer and is being held in detention pending contact with New York authorities.
David Charles McDonald, 49, 10753 Highway 182, Garden City, LA was arrested on December 20, 2012 at 3:23 pm for domestic abuse battery. While patrolling the Garden City area a deputy responded to a complaint of an attack. During the investigation the deputy learned that McDonald and a female victim were arguing when McDonald became violent, grabbing her. The victim was able to escape McDonald by locking herself in a bathroom until the deputy arrived. McDonald was transported to the parish jail for booking and incarceration. No bond is set.
Russell B. Champagne, 29, 221 Verot School Road Apt. 301, Lafayette, LA was arrested on December 20, 2012 at 7:14 pm for driving while intoxicated 2nd offense, reckless operation with an accident, no insurance, no vehicle registration, resisting by force, battery on a police officer, possession of synthetic cannabinoids, possession of drug paraphernalia, misuse of toxic vapors. A deputy responded to a complaint of a single vehicle crash on Highway 90 near Zenor Road. Upon arrival the deputy learned from a witness that the vehicle drove through the median and crashed into the railroad tracks. When the deputy made contact with the driver, later identified as Champagne, he swung at the deputy and became combative towards other deputies at the scene. During the course of the investigation the deputy located synthetic cannabinoids and a pipe on Champagne's person. Throughout the investigation Champagne continuously resisted, at one point kicking a deputy on the leg. Champagne was transported to the parish jail for booking and incarceration. No bond is set.
