According to St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert, during the last 24 hour reporting period the Sheriff's Office responded 46 complaints and reports the following arrests:
Tom Nguyen, 56, 812 Lake Palourde Road, Amelia, LA was arrested on September 16, 2013 at 1:25 pm on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of use of crab traps without the required markings. Nguyen turned himself in at the St. Mary parish Sheriff's Office in Franklin. He was transported to the parish jail for booking and incarceration. Nguyen was later released on a $2,000 bond.
Juvenile male, 16, Amelia, LA was arrested on September 16, 2013 at 7:10 pm for domestic abuse battery. A deputy responded to a report of a domestic disturbance at a residence in Amelia. During the course of the investigation, the deputy determined that during an argument, the juvenile pushed a female victim into a wall. The juvenile was released to a guardian pending juvenile court proceedings.
Elizabeth H. Cunningham, 54, 1111 Main Street, Patterson, LA was arrested on September 16, 2013 at 11:05 pm on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of theft. A deputy conducting a traffic stop on Barrow Street in Amelia made contact with a passenger identified as Cunningham. During the investigation, the deputy learned that Cunningham held an active warrant for her arrest. She was transported to the parish jail for booking and incarceration. Her bond is set at $5,000.
Abel Remigio Ortiz, 35, 301 David Road, Bayou Vista, LA was arrested on September 17, 2013 at 1:08 am for domestic abuse aggravated assault (Child Endangerment Law) and aggravated criminal damage to property. A deputy responded to a report of a disturbance on Teche Road in Bayou Vista. Upon arrival, the deputy saw a male subject walking away from a vehicle with a shattered windshield. Inside that vehicle were a female subject and a small female child. The deputy detained the male subject and identified him as Ortiz. During the subsequent investigation, the deputy determined that Ortiz and the female victim were involved in an argument at a residence when Ortiz attempted to prevent the victim from leaving. When Ortiz went into the kitchen, the female took her one year old child out of the home and got into a vehicle. As she attempted to drive away from the residence, Ortiz jumped onto the hood of the vehicle with a knife. Fearing for her and her child's safety, the female drove away with Ortiz on the hood of the car. As she drove onto Highway 182, Ortiz began striking the windshield of the car with the butt of a knife. Ortiz shattered the windshield sending broken glass onto the two victims in the car. The female victim sustained a cut to her foot from the broken glass. The child was not injured. Ortiz was transported to the parish jail for booking and incarceration. No bond is set. Billy Glen Haughton, 34, 2008 Keith Street Lot 16, Morgan City, LA was arrested on September 16, 2013 at 4:19 pm on the following charges:
Cultivation of marijuana
Possession of marijuana with intent to distribute
Possession of drug paraphernalia
Detectives of the St Mary Parish Sheriff's Office Narcotics Division conducted an investigation into illegal drug activity at 2008 Keith Street Lot 16 in Morgan City. Detectives received consent to search the residence and located a marijuana grow which included two small plants and other items used to cultivate marijuana. Also, Haughton's vehicle was seized pending forfeiture. Haughton was transported to the parish jail for booking and incarceration. He was released on an $8,000 bond. Summar Comeaux, 30, 900 Short Street Alley, Morgan City, LA was arrested on September 16, 2013 at 8:08 pm on the following charges:
Possession of methamphetamines
Possession of marijuana
Possession of Legend Drug (Paxil) without a prescription, 2 counts
Improper lane usage
Narcotics Detectives observed a vehicle cross the fog line of Highway 90 in Bayou Vista, conducted a traffic stop, and made contact with the driver identified as Comeaux. Detectives received consent to search Comeaux and the vehicle locating methamphetamines, marijuana, and Paxil pills. Comeaux was transported to the parish jail for booking and incarceration. No bond is set.
