St. Martin Sheriff's Graduating Cadets


(St. Martinville, La.)-The 27th Session of the St Martin Sheriff's TrainingAcademy had graduation ceremonies at 9:00 a.m. this morning. Twenty-two Cadets representing Law Enforcement agencies from throughout South Louisiana completed eleven weeks of Basic Law Enforcement Training as well as two cadets who were Police Officers previously received refresher training. They are all now P.O.S.T (Police Officers Standards of Training) Certified.


During the 11 week course cadets received over 400 hours of training in areas such as Patrol Activities, Legal Aspects, Officer Survival, Investigations, Use of Force, Traffic Services, Firearms, Domestic & Family Matters, Specialized Activities, Defensive Tactics and Becoming a Professional Peace Officer. Instructors for these courses include members of St. Martin, St Landry, Iberia, Lafayette and Vermilion Parish Sheriff's Offices, the FBI, Louisiana State Police, Lafayette Police Department, and other area agencies, as well as specialists from the medical profession and other private entities.


The following Sheriff's Offices, Police Departments and State Agencies had cadets graduating; Scott Police Department, Vermilion Sheriff's Office, LA Adult Probation & Parole, Iota Police Department, Abbeville City Marshal, St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office, St. Martinville Police Department, St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office, Abbeville Police Department, Evangeline Sheriff's Office, La. Office of Juvenile Justice, and Acadia Parish Sheriff's Office.
